For a mother it is a shear joy when her kid transitions from being an avid story listener to a story teller. And in this blog, with bubbles of joy in my heart I will be sharing a story developed and narrated by my 5 years old son, which he weaved for his story telling activity in school.
One fine day when my son got an assignment from his school to prepare and recite a story. The expectation from him was to recite one that was taught in the class. Idea of resonating the replica of what is taught does not go that well with him, at the minimum he would like to do some value add to it. Since this was story telling, and my son just loves stories, was naturally all excited about it. He came to me asking “Mumma which story I should narrate in my class?”. My response was to narrate whichever story he likes the most. This was enough to get him excited to weave a story of his own and with a smile on his face he echoed my intention by saying, “Mummaaa, I will make my own story then.”
Within few minutes his billions of neurones went active on tying up his thought storm into a story which he would like to narrate. Few more minutes and his thought storm settled and brain had plotted a story which he was ready to narrate to his first listener, who else would that be except me. Sometimes seeing him in express mode I wonder, did I sub-consciously got inspired by him to name my book/YouTube channel/blog Quick and Healthy Bites or its the other way around.
So, oozing with excitement he comes to narrate the story. And he left me awestruck, by the simple story he narrated and at the same time using it as a medium to pass the message around importance of cleanliness. Something which he practices in reality, keeping aside some stray instances of toys left unpacked after playing. But, hey he is still a kid, and well deserved to cut some slack for the stray instances of not walking the talk.
Enough of the gyan, let us get down to the story now:
This is how the story goes. There were two friends Mickey and Donald . They lived nearby and were good friends. They used to play in the park during evening but due to corona virus they were not allowed to go to the park anymore. One day they both decided to meet at Mickey’s place and play there so they could have some fun.
As planned Donald came to Mickey’s house and they played together. Now, Mickey was very organised and used to keep his toys in proper place, but cleaning up was not an area of interest nor habit for Donald. So, Mickey asked him to do the clean up together so that the place is clean and the toys are back to the place of its storage. But Donald said that he was tired and went back to his home without doing the clean up. Poor Mickey had to clean everything by himself.
Couple fo days later, Mickey went to Donald’s house and saw that there was a mess. He asked Donald “Why don’t you keep the toys properly so that they are organised?” Donald said “Oh I am too tired to do the clean up, my mom will do it afterwards.” But Mickey told him that he is big enough and he should take care of his things. He helped Donald to do the clean up and organise his toys. Donald was very happy to see his room all clean and tidy. He thanked Mickey and assured him that he will now try to keep his room clean and not burden his mom anymore. To successfully follow this Mickey made a rule that they will take out the another toy only once they pack up the one they were playing with. This way the cleaning up activity will not be tiring. They both agreed on it and made sure that they follow this simple rule always, wherever they play.
The moral of the story is, we should make cleanliness part of everyday activities, so that it does not look like a burdensome and boring separate task in itself.
I hope you enjoyed this short story created by my little munchkin. Thank you for reading and I urge you to keep motivating the creativity of our little ones. Give them wings and they will learn to fly by themselves.
